'Dancing With The Stars' Week 1 recap

The 11th season of Dancing With The Stars
premiered tonight, as the 12 pairs took to the dance floor for the first time in the hope of becoming the ultimate winner.
Here's what the judges said: Audrina Patridge & Tony Dovalani - Cha Cha
Says that he generally enjoyed it - they danced with confidence and she had good technique throughout. "Great job!" he adds.Bruno:
Thinks that she looks like a "beautiful show pony" that needs to be "whipped into shape". Tells her that she has everything the competition needs but that she will have to push herself much further in every area to become the best competitor. Carrie Ann:
Praises her for doing a solo in the first performance of the first show but urges her to be more "connected" to her body in order to bring out her internal sexiness.
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya - Viennese Waltz
Admits that it lacked "grace, elegance and lyrical movement" and says that there was nothing that he liked about it. Bruno:
Thinks he's "a natural" and has a lot of grace. Also praises him for being light on his feet even though he has no technique, and says that he has "great potential".Carrie Ann:
Agrees with Bruno and admits that he has a "great connection" that's natural with the audience, which will earn him a lot of fans.
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer - Cha Cha
Says that he "thoroughly enjoyed it", but urges him to bring a different energy to next week's performance as he could go a long way in the competition. Bruno:
Praises him for being "full of energy and enthusiasm" and describes him as a "pure entertainer".Carrie Ann:
Calls him her "first crush" of this season. She thinks it was "on fire" and that he danced "like butter".
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke - Viennese WaltzLen:
Thinks that he was "quite elegant" and had good posture during the routine, and says that he did a "great job".Bruno:
Admits that he can't wait to see Rick progress through the weeks as he feels there is a lot he can bring to the competition. Carrie Ann:
Describes it as "amazing" and praises him for not making the height difference between himself and Cheryl very obvious.
Margaret Cho and Louis Van Amstel - Viennese Waltz
Admits that he is unhappy with her choice to bring a comedic element to the Viennese waltz as he felt it was "inappropriate" and unnecessary.Bruno:
Says that she had a "spiteful" face while dancing and says that her comedic performance didn't work as she probably could dance well without resorting to tricks.Carrie Ann:
Calls it a "very bold choice" and admits it was a bit overly dramatic. Urges her to be more serious next week.
Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Viennese Waltz
Thinks that she made a "fantastic impression" on her first week and that it was a pleasure to watch. Bruno:
Loves it, as she added a "little spark" to the routine, and says that he can't wait to see her continue through the competition. Carrie Ann:
Says it was "very beautiful" and admires her ability to be comfortable in front of the crowd but advises her to watch being "too strong" with her movements in order to loosen up.
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas - Cha Cha
Congratulates her on a "very acceptable" performance for the first week, but advises her to "loosen up" in future performances. Bruno:
Praises her for coming out and confronting something entirely new, and encourages her to focus more on the technical aspects of the performance in the future. Carrie Ann:
Admits that she feared Bristol would be "boring" but was happy to be proven wrong.
Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas - Cha Cha
Describes it as "quite entertaining" and praises Corky for bringing great dancing skills out of someone who had not had previous experience. Bruno:
Calls her a "spunky lady" but admits that she occasionally seemed "insecure" about missing steps. Carrie Ann:
Says that the performance was extra enjoyable as it was obvious that she was having a good time while dancing but encourages her to concentrate more on technical aspects in the future.
Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower - Viennese Waltz
Thinks that he moved around the floor well but advises him to improve his posture in order to avoid being "off-putting".Bruno:
Tells him to "relax and enjoy" his performances more as he was very stiff during the routine. Carrie Ann:
Thinks that Michael allowed Chelsie to lead too often and advised him to smile more during performances.
Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino and Karina Smirnoff - Cha Cha
Thinks that he has potential but admits that the performance was under-rehearsed and could have used more work. Bruno:
Admits that it was a bad start but feels that he has potential to become a better dancer if he applies himself and takes the competition seriously. Carrie Ann:
Agrees with Len and Bruno but says that she's looking forward to seeing what he can do next week after having proper time to practise.
Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough - Viennese Waltz
Thinks that it was great to watch but believes she can do better and says that he looks forward to seeing what she brings to the floor next week. Bruno:
Says that she should be proud of herself for performing such a beautiful waltz. Carrie Ann:
Admits that "something profound" happened in which she connected perfectly with the material. "Some things get better with age, and you're one of them," she adds.
David Hasselhoff and Kym Johnson - Cha Cha
Says that it was "entertaining" but reveals his concerns over David's ability to perform more difficult dance styles. Bruno:
Criticises the lack of timing in the piece and describes it as a "potpourri of insanity". Carrie Ann:
Says that he seemed to "dance with [his] mouth" and advised him to tone it down but admitted that he looked as though he was having fun.
