'American Idol' could last for six more seasons

A NewsCorp executive has said that American Idol could last for up to 17 seasons.The show has had a significant decline in popularity over recent years, with the ratings for this season's finale down 32% on last year.

Despite this, president of the Fox Networks Group David Haslingden claimed at a recent media summit he is optimistic the show can "continue on for 15, 16, 17 seasons".
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Haslingden also said the network is "absolutely committed" to American Idol, and would "throw all resources" at making it a ratings champion once again.
Season 11 of American Idol has just concluded, averaging 19 million viewers across its 40 episodes.
Haslingden is the second Fox executive to comment on the future of the show in recent weeks: Kevin Reilly claimed that the series may have to undergo some "creative tweaking" to arrest its ratings decline, much to the dismay of executive producer Nigel Lythgoe.

it was a combination of simon leaving, and jennifer and steven joining that provided the gateway for me to begin watching american idol. these past two seasons have been so good. so much talent on offer. scotty, philip, joshua, hayley, skyler, james, colton, jessica... the list goes on. i've started watching adam lambert's idol performances as well and boy can he sing?
american idol is a million times better than x factor, or anything else that simon cowell has put his name to. long may it continue.

feel sorry for the US here we're getting bored of these shows imagine another 10 years of x factor.

There were 40 episodes of American Idol this series? Wow. The talent seems to have gotten exceedingly better over the past few years. Simon's last series (Lee DeWyze) was terrible. Then they came back and had Scotty, Lauren, Haley, James, Casey, Pia, just to name a few. And the talent this year was incredible too. American Idol is and always will be the best American talent show; perhaps even the best talent show there is. It's far superior to anything we have.
