American Idol has confirmed the theme for next week's live performance show.

The Top 6 contestants will perform tracks by legendary singer-songwriter Carole King on Wednesday night's show, it has been announced.

Among the Grammy Award winner's songwriting credits are '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman', 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow' and 'You've Got A Friend'.

The Carole King theme follows previous themes this season including memorable tracks from the movies, music by the contestants' favourite artists, songs from the 21st century, and tracks from the year the contestants were born.

Next week's American Idol will also see the return of season nine runner-up Crystal Bowersox - who lost out to winner Lee DeWyze - for a performance on the Thursday results show, while Bruno Mars will also take to the stage that night.

American Idol airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on Fox.
