New American Idol
judge Steven Tyler
has said that his Aerosmith bandmates were "jealous" of his role on the show.
Earlier this week, Tyler was revealed
to be joining the series' next season alongside Jennifer Lopez. Last month, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry publicly criticised
Tyler's rumoured involvement with the show.
Speaking at a press conference, Tyler said: "With the band, we've been married for 40 years.
"At first they were jealous. They heard it through the press and not through me, but then I said to them, 'Four months ago you were looking for a new lead singer'. Things go up and down."
He continued: "You know, as the band goes, we live on the tail of a comet. I've been touring with those guys for 40 years and they've been judging me every day. Sometimes it hurt, but most times I came out through the wormhole stronger. So it's a real journey with those guys."
Tyler then added: "I'm sure they're happy for me. It'll do nothing but take it up a notch or two and it's good."American Idol
