Ashley visited the hometowns of her final four men to meet their families on Monday night's episode of the ABC show.
Ames introduced Ashley to his mother, sister, brother and other relatives in Chadds Fort, PA, but although he privately said he felt like he was falling in love with Ashley, he was sent home at the rose ceremony.
Writing in her post-episode blog for People, Ashley said: "I really felt as if I was missing a romantic connection with Ames. I knew saying goodbye to him would be hard because the last thing I wanted to do was hurt someone I respected so much."
Ashley added: "Ames is the true definition of a good man and I know he will make a wonderful woman very happy one day! You're the best Ames."

Host Chris Harrison added in his Entertainment Weekly blog: " After the four hometowns with four good men I think it was clear that Ashley really has a solid relationship building with Ben, JP and Constantine. Ames was just too far behind and Ashley felt more of a friendship than a budding romance with him."
Ames's sister had suspected during the hometown visit that Ashley might not feel as strongly about Ames as he did about her, advising her brother to open up about his feelings to the dental student.
Ames put her advice into practice by arranging a romantic picnic followed by a horse and carriage ride, but it wasn't enough to secure him a place in the final three.
"I was really excited to see what would happen between us next and that's something I will never get to know," he said after his elimination. "I was just hoping to share a lifetime of adventures with this very beautiful woman and now I'm back to sharing a lifetime of adventure with myself which is less enticing."
He added: "More than anything I want to be in love and I hope I find love. It's difficult because I thought I might have found it but in fact I guess not."
Ashley will now travel to Fiji with her remaining three men - JP, Constantine and Ben F - as her journey as The Bachelorette draws to a close.
The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8/7 on ABC.

Ames was not all that he appeared on the show. He ended a relationship to go on the Bachelorette. OK, maybe he knew this wasn't going to be a life long relationship and being on the Bachelorette was a once in a lifetime opportunity so we let that pass. Then, he "romantically" leaves Bachelor Pad II for Jackie Brown but breaks up with in two weeks without giving her any explanation. The explanation was The Bachelor producers had been considering him as the next Bachelor so he had to drop Jackie fast! When he wasn't chosen as The Bachelor, he connects Jackie. For reasons I cannot explain (Jackie's low self esteem, maybe?) she agrees to start dating Ames again but has said "I don't know what he wants." The man cannot sit still. He has traveled all over the world - alone. He did lose both his biological father and step-father to cancer so he might have abandonment issues and as soon as a relationship gets to close, he ends it. Thank goodness Ashley didn't pick Ames. He would have ended the relationship as fast as DeAnna P. left Jesse saying I love you but I'm not "in" love with you. That took 4 months.
P.S. I don't care for profanity either but almost every person on the show used profanity at least once. Also, for all the people who don't think Ashley is intelligent, stupid people don't graduate from dental school.

I didn't see any romantic connection with Constantine either. He told Ashley he felt closer to "the guys" than he did to her. Once he made that remark, she should have sent him home. Instead, he got a home town date and free national advertising for his restaurant. I didn't see any connection with Lucas either although I felt he was more sincere in trying to develop a relationship with Ashley than Constantine. Even though I thought her soul mate was JP early on, I wish Ryan P. would have gotten a hometown date over Constantine.

She missed the romantic connection with Ames because she is not poetic and philosophical like Ames. It went over her head when he tried to say what romance is. Ames is a born romantic in a different way. He needs a woman who is in the same level as he is. Sophisticated, refined , classy, highly intelligent and cultured. Ashley has a trashy mouth, She think it is becoming to have a trashy mouth. She needs to go to A charm School to learn some good manners before she joined or signed up to become the season Bachelorette. It is a a blessing in disguise that she didn't chose Ames. He could be the next Bachelor. IMO
