's journey as The Bachelorette
drew one step closer to its conclusion tonight as she visited her remaining four men in their hometowns to learn more about them and meet their families
, before sending one man home at the rose ceremony, leaving just three to accompany her to Fiji next week.Constantine - Cumming, GA
Ashley says Constantine is physically what she has been looking for and she started to feel a strong connection to him during their last date in Taiwan. She arrives in Georgia to meet his father, mother and sister - but first up is a trip to Constantine's Italian restaurant to make some pizza and salad. "I love seeing Constantine at the restaurant," notes Ashley. "He looks so sexy. He's such a stud!" Ashley thinks she and Constantine are on the same page and says he has definitely opened up since they first met.
After dinner, Constantine's mum admits that while she wants Constantine to be happy, she is concerned that he and Ashley need more time to figure out if they are right for each other: "Everything is wonderful when you are jetted away to these awesome places and you are on beautiful beaches but in the real world it's different." She quizzes Ashley on whether she'd be willing to relocate to Georgia if her relationship with Constantine works out. Ashley says she would because her partner's happiness is paramount to her.
Meanwhile, Constantine is talking to his dad. He admits that he was skeptical when he entered The Bachelorette
but everything has changed now. His dad says that he likes Ashley, saying she has a warm personality and nice smile, but warns Constantine that he shouldn't be rushed into everything. He urges his son to look at his own relationship with Elleni, which has last 30 years, saying that while all relationships have ups and downs, they should be "perfect" when they begin. As the evening winds to an end, there is just one more surprise in store for Ashley - all of Constantine's relatives arrive and the night draws to a close with dancing.
Ben F - Sonoma, CA
Ashley says that everything about Ben "screams sexiness" from his hair to his fashion to the fact he is a winemaker - which provides the base for the first part of their date. Ben whisks Ashley to his winery to sample some of his produce before they share a picnic on the porch of his house in the rain.
Ben admits that he's been "pretty guarded" since his dad died but The Bachelorette
has allowed him to open up about his feelings. He tells Ashley that he's only ever brought one woman home to meet his mum, which makes Ashley nervous, as does his admission that if his mum and sister don't like Ashley and she doesn't like them, he doesn't know if their own relationship will work: "I could never marry a woman my mum and sister don't approve of so it's of the utmost importance Ashley gets on with them. They are all that I have."
Over dinner, Ben's sister reveals that she was the one who signed him up for The Bachelorette
, telling Ashley that Ben has dated girls who haven't stuck around for too long and admitting that she hasn't always liked them: "I'm actually more protective over him than you may think." Ben later tells his sister that his relationship with Ashley is "effortless" and says he has opened up about his feelings more to her than anyone else in the past six years. He adds that he will have no problem proposing if the relationship keeps progressing as much as it has.
Next up is a talk with his mum, where he confesses that his journey on the show changed from being just an adventure to actually developing feelings for Ashley. He also tearfully reflects on his father, saying: "My dad is always with me. He is everything that I am today so I know that he is proud of me and that I'm doing the right thing. I miss him."> The Bachelorette recap: Taiwan, Ashley chooses hometown dates, two men exit> Bachelorette Lucas talks "shock" exit, thoughts on Bentley
Ames - Chadds Ford, PA
Ames says that he feels like Ashley is his girlfriend now as he introduces her to his family. His mum notices that he looks healthy and happy, suggesting that Ashley must have "caught his attention in a very serious way", while his sister Serena also notices a spark but wonders if Ashley feels the same way. Serena takes Ashley to the pool house to find out more. Ashley admits that their relationship has moved slower than some of the others but insists that she chose Ames because she sees "so many good things in him" and definitely feels something: "I'm not ready to stop learning about him."
Serena then tells Ashley that Ames's father passed away when he was 10 and his stepfather, who was like a second dad, later died of cancer. Ashley says that she now understands certain aspects of Ames's personality and knows that he will always maintain a positive outlook in life even in the worst situations. Serena, however, doesn't seem convinced Ashley has the same spark as Ames, and Ashley herself seems to express similar worries in private.
Meanwhile, Ames is talking to his mum, saying that although their relationship hasn't been as rushed as others, that is OK. He also says that he would never make a major life decision without his mum's approval. Serena later corners Ames to give him some advice. She thinks he needs to be the "full Ames" with Ashley and not hold anything back in order to advance their romance.
Ames puts the advice into action by taking Ashley to one of the nearby gardens for a picnic under a magnolia tree, where he admits to being unpopular in school but says that means he never takes anything for granted. Ashley thinks they actually have a similar outlook on life and tells Ames that she has never met anybody like him. Ames says that magic should be in the ordinary and that life is not all about fireworks. They share a kiss before ending the date with a horse and carriage ride through the countryside. Ames thinks that he is falling in love with Ashley, while Ashley thinks they have a real connection and wonders if this could be the "storybook romance" she tells her kids about.
JP - New York
JP starts his hometown date by taking Ashley to the local roller skating rink, where she admits to feeling like a seventh grader again as they skate under the disco ball holding hands and share kisses. They take a break after JP takes a tumble and he tells Ashley that he's only ever taken four women home to meet his family. He admits that his last girlfriend "didn't turn out so well" and he was left hurt by the relationship. "I think the one thing that made it fail was there was never any reassurance," he tells Ashley. "There was always some cause for doubt or concern. Things she did that would cause me to question the relationship."
However, he is 100% certain of his connection with Ashley and says that he has completely changed since his 20s. Ashley doesn't understand how he can be so sure, prompting JP to say that he feels "on a high" with her and "miserable" without her. He also appreciates that if he doesn't put himself out there and risk getting hurt the relationship could fail, telling Ashley that he knows he could walk away broken-hearted but at least he can say he gave everything he could.
Over dinner, JP recounts to his family how the relationship developed. His brother Roy privately admits that he is surprised at how hard and fast JP has fallen, while his mum is concerned that opening himself up to finding love is never difficult for JP and that means he is at risk of getting hurt. She takes JP to one side to tell him that she doesn't want to see him heartbroken again and point blank asks if he is in love with Ashley. "There are a lot of signs that point towards it," he replies. "I think I'm having difficult admitting it yet." However, he is sure he won't get his heart broken because he shares something with Ashley that she doesn't have with the other men. His mum's next question is whether he will propose. "If I feel it, yeah, why not?" he replies. "I'm open to the possibility that I might."
JP's mum then talks to Ashley, revealing her concerns that JP could be left broken-hearted. She points out that JP has only Ashley to think about but Ashley has three other men. Ashley says that she uses her gut and head when making decisions and reassures his mum that she is "smitten" with JP and they share something "very special". His mum seems happy with the answer and says that it's good to see JP's smile back.
Back at the Bachelorette
mansion. Ashley tells the men that she enjoyed the time she spent with each of their families, which makes this a very hard decision. The roses go to Ben F, JP and Constantine, meaning that Ames is eliminated from the show.
Ashley tells Ames that she cares for him and he says that he is lucky to have her in his life: "It's been totally beautiful and full of the unexpected and even more poetic than I ever would have imagined. I'll remember every second of it for the rest of my life." Ashley agrees that she will too. In the limo, Ames says that he feels "pretty numb" because he has fallen in love with somebody who didn't fall for him back.
"I just wonder what it was," he muses. "I was really excited to see what would happen between us next and that's something I will never get to know. I was just hoping to share a lifetime of adventures with this very beautiful woman and now I'm back to sharing a lifetime of adventure with myself which is less enticing... More than anything I want to be in love and I hope I find love. It's difficult because I thought I might have found it but in fact I guess not."The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC > Read our full The Bachelorette headlines
