fans will know that tonight's episode has been teased as the one where Bentley leaves and breaks Ashley's heart, and we know it won't bode well for the dental student when she begins the instalment by saying that Bentley has already swept her off her feet…One-on-one date: Ben C
Ashley whisks Ben off to a dance studio for some dance practice, before they share a picnic together in a public park. Ashley encourages Ben to get up and show off his dance moves with her despite the crowds gathering to watch, when, suddenly, music starts, and the crowd joins in the dancing, forming a huge flash mob! The surprises don't end there, however, as Far East Movement make a surprise appearance at the park for a concert.
Over dinner that evening, Ben tells Ashley that he's a hopeless romantic, and he wants to live in an "idealistic bubble" where his partner and himself think they are more in love than any other couple in the world. Ashley thinks he has high expectations for relationships with his quest for perfect love, but privately says it's exactly what she wants. Ben makes Ashley laugh by saying if it was the real world he'd be asking his friends for tips on devising the perfect text message. She loves his sincerity and feels the same way about getting to know each other better. Ben gets the date rose and a kiss.Jeff takes off his mask
Before the group date begins, Jeff takes Ashley to one side for alone time. As he leads her outside, the other men suspect that he plans to remove his mask
and shout things like, 'I hope she comes back'. Ashley seems thrilled, saying that she's been waiting for Jeff to open up to her. After the mask comes off, she says: "My first reaction is that I'm happy he finally took it off. He's a lot older than I thought he was, but he's cute."Group date - Ames, Ben F, Chris, Blake, Jeff, Lucas, Nick, Ryan, William, and Bentley
The group arrive at the Comedy Store, where they learn they will be roasting Ashley! Roastmaster General Jeffrey Ross tells them: "If you can make a woman laugh at herself then you can make her do anything!" Most of the guys play it safe, picking on each other or Ashley's chest size (which she doesn't mind), until it's William's turn. He thinks the bachelors are being too soft considering it's a roast, and proceeds to launch into a routine which involves claiming disappointment that Ashley is the next bachelorette. She smiles and manages to give him a hug, but looks very upset. Someone from the crowd shouts: "No rose for you!"
Ashley, however, definitely doesn't seem amused, and bursts into tears backstage, where she is approached by Bentley. He tells us that he can't miss the chance to "mess with her head", adding that he finds criers unattractive. However, he puts on his charming front and soothes her by saying she has everything a man could want. "He's just a real guy and that's what I'm looking for," she says afterwards. "With him, I just don't feel he has [an alternative agenda]."
William knows that he made a mistake and tells Ashley that he doesn't think he can make it up to her. He urges her to talk to the other men, not him, because they can make her feel better, adding that the best option for him now is to go home. He leaves the building to clear his head while Ashley talks to the other men, although she privately admits that she can't stop thinking of what William said in his roast. Eventually, however, Ryan manages to comfort her by saying she's the only one he wanted as the bachelorette and the pair share a kiss. Ashley confronts Bentley
Ashley, who is "feeling like an open book", decides to tell Bentley that former contestant Michelle Money warned her that he was in the house to promote his business rather than find love, and he was only planning on staying for a couple of weeks. Bentley stays cool and seems to dismiss the concerns. Ashley tells him that he leaves it would be harder for her than anything she went through on The Bachelor
, but he says that he is "totally on the same page" as her and cuddles her on the couch.
"My heart races when I'm with him," says Ashley. "I feel warm, comfortable, secure, protected and like I could trust him forever." Bentley feels confident that he will get the date rose and Ashley is "head over heels", so it's a surprise to him when she awards it to Ryan. Bentley privately says it now justifies his desire to "check out".Bentley leaves
Ashley wakes up the next day and says she "completely fell in love" with Bentley the other night and if she had her way, she'd run off to Salt Lake City with him right now. Bentley, however, is definitely not feeling the same way. After packing his bags, he tells the guys that he just misses his daughter too much to stay, although privately tells us that it's because Ashley isn't his type and he came into the show hoping that Emily would be the bachelorette.
"These freaking idiots believed me," he says later. "All of the guys know I'm the frontrunner because they've seen my connection with Ashley. None of them have any idea that I don't care about Ashley. I played everyone, that's something that's never been done before."> Read more about Bentley's exit and Ashley's reaction
Bentley arrives at Ashley's house to deliver the news and she's devastated. He tells a sobbing Ashley that he woke up that morning feeling that his daughter really missed him and he can't see any other option than leaving now. Ashley can't do much else but cry as Bentley says he can't see himself returning to the show. As he leaves her house, he tells us that Ashley is "not the type of girl I'm smitten by, she's the type of girl I'd hook up with now and then" and thinks things could have been different if Emily was the bachelorette.
Ashley retreats to her bedroom in tears, burrowing herself under her bed covers and sobbing. "I don't know what to do now. How can I do this?" she cries. "My heart is totally broken. Was I wrong about everything?"One-on-one date: JP
Despite her heartbreak, Ashley has a one-on-one date with JP at her home the next day. She's worried that it will be unfair to him because she's so upset. Eventually they get into their pyjamas by an open fire and just talk. JP tells Ashley that he really wants to be there, and he ends up getting the date rose and a kiss. "It was perfect," he later says. "You don't think feelings can develop that quickly but there is something about her." Ashley, meanwhile, admits that while Bentley still has her heart, JP is the better kisser.Rose Ceremony
Ashley meets Chris Harrison ahead of the cocktail party. She can't explain why Bentley got under her skin so quickly and says that it's unfair to the other guys to have a cocktail party that night because she's emotionally drained. Chris delivers the news, telling the nervous men that they'll be going straight into the rose ceremony. William is particularly concerned because he hasn't spoken to Ashley since the roast.
Ben C, Ryan and JP already have roses. The remaining roses go to: Constantine, West, Mickey, Ben F, Blake, Nick, Ames, Lucas and William.
Masked Man Jeff and Chris D are eliminated.
Jeff throws his mask in the fire on his way out of the mansion and admits that the idea of not showing his face and making Ashley fall for what is on the inside was a lot more difficult than he anticipated. The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABCMore Bachelorette news:> Chris Harrison talks Ashley, Bentley drama> Read our full The Bachelorette headlines
