Published Jun 26 2012, 15:18 BST | By Morgan Jeffery Dexter
will come to an end after season eight, show exec Sara Colleton has confirmed.
Series star Jennifer Carpenter
previously told Digital Spy
that she only plans to film eight seasons
of the Showtime drama.
"[That end date] was definite," Colleton told TV Guide
. "We wanted to end it this year [after seven years] but the network convinced us that it would be best to do it in two years.
"In some ways, this is a two-season series-ender. We have worked that out and know where it's going to end. Next year will definitely be the last year of Dexter
Colleton added that the show's writing team already know "how the series will end".
"We don't know what the final scene is, but we know where [the show is] going," she said. "We know now exactly how it's going to end."
The exec explained that Dexter
should conclude before it becomes "old and stale".
"I feel easily that we can be an eight-year show," she claimed. "I want us to go out on a high and everybody on the show is determined to keep the level of it up to the very end."Dexter
returns to Showtime on Sunday, September 30 at 9/8c. In the UK, Dexter
