'The Vampire Diaries' season three promo trailer debuts

The popular supernatural series returns next month, ready to pick up on the dramatic ending of season two, which saw Stefan Salvatore forced to begin feeding off humans again.
The trailer features scenes from season three opener 'The Birthday', including Damon Salvatore getting closer to Elena now that Stefan has seemingly turned evil.
Last season's budding romance between vampire Caroline and werewolf Tyler also looks to come to fruition at some point, following scenes in which the two share a bed.
The new season will feature guest appearances from Pretty Little Liars star Claire Holt and Supernatural actor Sebastian Roché.
The Vampire Diaries returns on The CW on September 15 at 8/7c.
