Executive producer Sera Gamble recently insisted that it is too early to tell if the CW drama will return for another year.
However, Padalecki told TVLine: "I'm excited about season eight. I feel like there are more stories to tell. I feel like we haven't wrapped everything up."
The actor also hinted that Supernatural could reach a natural conclusion after one more season.
"Season eight could be a great season," he said. "Even if we have to wrap things up in season eight, I feel like it would be a nice last hurrah."
Padalecki - who plays Sam Winchester - added that he would like the next season to focus more on the villainous Leviathans, a race of creatures introduced in the seventh season premiere.
"We introduced this great character, this great demon, and just doing one season – introducing them and then getting rid of them – doesn't give them the seriousness that they deserve," he argued.
"I [also] want to deal with Sam. One of the things that turned me on to Sam is how, against all odds, he can empower himself over the most horrendous obstacles. So I love seeing his inner strength. It's inspiring to myself and to a lot of fans, so I'd like to see more of that too."
Supernatural airs on Fridays at 9/8c on The CW.

Jessica Lynn Valure Kripke had a five year plan - they show was never meant to enter a season 6 when it started. If you're still enjoying the show that's great, personally I never took to the whole Souless Sam story line or the whole Grandaddy Campbell randomly coming back from the dead only to be killed off again. Plus I thought the 'Cas pulled Sam from Hell' solution was weak. But it's nice you're still enjoying it, don't let my opinion offend you.

Leonnie Mckillop its not awful either, and Kripe stop after 5 seasons cause he wanted to do something else had nothing to do with Supernatural and he still helps with Supernatural now and again so don't tell me it's awful no its not. If it was awful it wouldn't have good ratings which it does,

Jessica Lynn Valure Never said boring pal - I said awful. As in badly written and no longer the same quality we seen from seasons 1 to 5. To be fair to the writers after bringing in Lucifer there wasn't alot they could do to top that -- but that's exactly why they should have ended it. Kripke knew that, it was the network that wanted to squeeze more money out of the show after realising how popular it had become and now it's slowly dying a death and going the way of Charmed.
