Meloni's vampire character Roman was staked by Russell (Denis O'Hare) in Sunday night's (July 15) episode of the HBO drama.
"For the time being, he's dead," the actor told TVLine. "I think that was my swan song."
He added: "We had always decided that this was the way to go."
Despite his brief five-episode stint, the former Law & Order: SVU star insisted that he had enjoyed his time on True Blood.
"I think part of the success of the show is what you are truly seeing is actors who are happy and really enjoying what they're able to do," he suggested. "I fit right in with them."
The fifth season of True Blood continues on Sundays at 9pm on HBO in the US. In the UK, the series premieres on FX.

Certainly was a surprise as I didn't see it coming but as others have said, Salome is certainly double crossing and I suspect it was her who found Russell in the first place!

I don't think you can say that this was a shock. Salome has been made into a very dubious character and I expect it will be revealed that she betrayed Roman next week. I'll miss the character though, he seemed to have the right idea.

I saw it coming. but am a bit sad as Meloni is a great actor but he didn't really get the chance to spread his wings on this show. I was hoping he'd be around long enough for the character to develop a bit more. It kinda seems like a waste of his time as the character was very 'one note' and could've been played by anyone. I hope he gets another more permanent gig soon as I have been a fan of his since 'OZ' and I miss him in SVU. :-(

me too. yes they could have cast anyone for the role but i heard they wanted a high profile name to play the role, as it would be create a mid-season shock death when they killed him off.

Watched this episode last night, really didn't see that coming! Thought Roman was a great character - is there any comeback from being staked?

in reply to your question i dont know becuase when eric killed russells boyfriend talbot russell kept his blood and goo bits in a jar and insinuated that maybe he planned to revive him but then a stake to the heart is said to be the true death so i dont no but his comments above seem to mean hes definatly gone for good but just said that to maybe keep fans guessing and hope maybe theres enough support that theyl bring him back but i doubt they will have any plans to bring him back as a main and if they do i think it will be more of a cameo
