Robert Sean Leonard has offered his opinion on the fact that Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) is not returning for the House series finale.Asked in an interview with TVLine whether Edelstein's absence would make the finale feel incomplete, Hugh Laurie agreed that it would.

He said: "Yes, that would be incomplete."
Leonard, who was being interviewed at the same time as Laurie, then responded: "I disagree... I don't like neatness. I don't think it's necessary to tie up every character's story."
He said that he prefers "shows that end without tying things up", citing M*A*S*H's finale as one example of such a show.
Leonard went on: "House's relationship with Cuddy deteriorated. She fled the scene, and that's it. That is the end of the story.
"Why the hell should she come back? To say, 'House! You forgot this waffle iron'?
"She's gone. We made the point that she left because she wanted to leave - the character, I don't mean Lisa. So the story goes on."
It was confirmed this week that the series finale will be entitled 'Everybody Dies'. Olivia Wilde and Amber Tamblyn will return for the episode, while Edelstein and Jennifer Morrison will not.

Hmm the show went downhill in season 6 when the decided that they didn't need continutey any more and its being in decline ever since but that's just my my take on things.

It all went wrong after season 4 anyway, that season was the shows peak.

I agree it would feel very awkward and artificial to bring a character back just for some sense of closure. Not everything needs a nice neat bow on it.
