The 30-year-old actor told The Hollywood Reporter that he will appear in "a lot" of the show's fourth season.
Finn decided to enlist in the army in the musical drama's third-season finale, but Monteith hinted that the character's fate may not be set.
"Finn would make a good soldier but I think he's still got a lot to think about - he still has a lot going for him outside of the army," explained Monteith.
"His heart is still with Rachel (Lea Michele) and I think he has a lot of reasons to not be in the army as well. I think he'd be torn as a soldier."
He added that Finn and Rachel's romance is part of the show's "long-term trajectory", encouraging fans to "root for the couple to reunite".
"I hope when we look back at it, they will be a legendary couple in television," he admitted.
Glee will return to Fox on Thursday, September 13. The series airs on Sky1 in the UK.

oh yay -__- His acting and character is so bland and annoying. First he support Rachel, then he criticises her for being ambitious, then he breaks up with her to follow her ambition. And that was the last 5 episodes or so. He isn't even talented enough for the time and storylines he gets, compared to the rest of the cast.

"I hope when we look back at it, they will be a legendary couple in television," I highly doubt that. I don't even think they're well suited so I would worry for any couple that aspires to be like them. :)
I do hope they manage to explore and focus on Finn outside of his relationship with Rachel this season. I think their relationship brings out the worst in both them and it really makes me dislike both characters. :(

He needs to be retired seriously. If that show keeps the character, let him truly fall in love with a real woman and have a healthy loving relationship.

Wow some nice comments here. There are some of us (who ARE of sound mind) that actually love the character of Finn and would/will miss me if he goes off the show. Love him singing with Rachel, on his own or as part of the group. Get him and believe in him as the character. And will be happy to see his story continue in Glee. Think of him as one of the best male characters and singers on the show. (Kurt, Blaine being the others closely followed by Puck, Artie and Sam) Am glad that he see Finchel as endgame.
