It isn't clear what role the 16-year-old singer would portray, but she is expected to join the cast midway through the first half of the season.
Sanchez competed during Idol's recent 11th run, where she came second to Phillip Phillips.
The young singer, who is known for her big voice, recently insisted that she is not the next Celine Dion.
"[Jimmy Iovine] said I can't be singing what I put on my album. I have to be singing competition songs, because we're on American Idol," she explained. "And I think that's what messed me up.
"I was paying attention to that way too much. I do sing ballads but I'm not a balladeer. I'm not the next Celine Dion."

Wow I hope she joins the cast of Glee - the girl is an actual teen & CAN sing sans autotune unlike the lead characters ( I'm referring especially to Finn/Cory Monteith). Hopefully she can act & dance.

That would be really cool. It'd be cool if she rivaled Tina for Mike.
