"I will say the story for season four gets back to the underdog status [for the characters]," Murphy told Vulture. "And that will appease people, maybe.
"Sometimes I feel that you can't win. It's just a volatile group of people that watch it, and for that, I like their passion."
Murphy went on to reveal that he knows what the very final scene of the show will be.
"Even though Glee is sometimes a hard road, I am very excited about writing a multi-year arc," he said.
"For example, Rachel Berry, meeting her as you did, hopefully by the end of her journey she will be a star. That's a very long, long period.
"I know where she'll end up; I know what the last scene will be."
He also confirmed that the fourth season will feature a second Britney Spears tribute episode.
Murphy previously stated that the show will shoot in New York for its fourth season.

I hope Glee returns to its roots next season, and I wouldn't mind seeing another swap episode, the little segment we had was good, and the greatly underused Jenna Ushkowitz finally got to act in a decent portion of the episode!

Why on earth does Brittney get a second tribute episodde???? There's swathes of brilliant artistic material they haven't even touched yet. While Heather's performance in the first tribute was as brilliant as ever, the songs themselves do nothing for me.
And how can they be turned back into underdogs - they just won Nationals for Heaven's Sake? What fans want isn't a return to the plot lines of season one, more to the writing of season one, witty, not OTT and not jumping about all over the place within a series. There's been some great character development, especially with some of the adults (Sue is currently at her best, still able to throw in a cutting comment, but showing a heart, rather than being a 1 dimensional panto villain) - let's not lose that and rather than base knee-jerk opinions on "volatile" fans, actually do some real work and write some good scripts. That's all we want.

I politely request not another Brittney Spears episode!

Back to underdog status? So all the characters have worked hard to achieve over the last three years will amount to nothing and they'll continue to be bullied and unappreciated? I mean Glee's plot lines can be a mess at the best of times but I sort of hoped that something would come of it, but no, back to where we all started. That's not entertaining, that's just depressing.

I always hated how they'd get bullied all the time in the school, but whenever they did a performance in assembly, the WHOLE school would stand up, cheer and dance. It made no sense whatsoever.

I so hope we do get to include everyone of the Characters and just make Glee season 4 the Rachel Berry show.
