The new Spears special, set to feature eight of the singer's songs, will be the fourth season's second instalment in the autumn, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Though not signed up to appear, Fox bosses are apparently attempting to seal a last-minute deal with the 30-year-old.
However, the instalment will not focus on Heather Morris's character of Brittany as the first tribute did.
Spears's original Glee edition remains one of the show's most-watched episodes ever.
Executives at Fox believe that a Spears-themed night will boost the network's Thursday night ratings, with X Factor airing before Glee.

Good news if it comes to fruition as she'll be the first artist to have two Glee tribute episodes. I remember talk of a 2nd Madonna one after S1's Power Of Madonna but nothing ever came of it. Also the big question would be if it does happen what songs would be covered??

I'd assume her recent releases. Till The World Ends, Criminal, maybe some from 07 like Gimme More, or maybe even Womanizer. Who knows?, they only focused on Britney's older songs in the first tribute.
