"I heard there was a part going in an episode," he told Britain's InStyle magazine.
"I said, 'I hate to muscle in here guys but could I record it?' Next thing, I'm standing in a room with all those famous voices; Bart, Marge, Homer, Lisa."
Previous British stars who have appeared in The Simpsons include Ricky Gervais, Simon Cowell, Sting, Tony Blair and Coldplay.
Cumberbatch's next TV role will be as Christopher Tietjens in World War One BBC/HBO mini-series Parade's End.

How about stop all the pointless cameos and try being funny again?

It wasn't a pointless cameo. There was a small part that needed casting and Benedict asked if he could do it. The Simpsons didn't go looking for him to cameo.

He's a really nice guy and a very talented actor, what's not to like?

I get your drift. There's something about him where he seems over-exaggerated and shoved in on a lot of BBC Drama advertising etc. such as Sherlock. Some may call it an unnecessary form of judgment but I feel exactly the same , he is somewhat irritating in his acting and style- and what makes people want to say it is when all of that is advertised in your face. He's probably not that bad besides that.

I don't like him either, he looks like an Otter.
