Damian Lewis: 'Homeland has hit the Zeitgeist'

Damian Lewis has said that discussion of Homeland on the political pages of serious newspapers proves that the show has "hit the Zeitgeist".The actor plays US Marine platoon sergeant and former al-Qaeda captive Nicholas Brody in the Showtime series based on the Israeli show Hatufim (Abduction).

"I hate this word but I can't think of anything else to say," Lewis told the Evening Standard.
"You know you've hit the Zeitgeist when the piece of entertainment you're a part of has made the political pages of something like the New York Times. It's had that crossover.
"The piece was talking about the withdrawal of troops, and about the way in which [president Barack] Obama has had to finish a s**tty job started by the Bush administration."
He continued: "It said that he actually wasn't doing it that well - but even so, he was doing it.
"And it talked about the paranoia that still exists in our foreign policy, and at home in the US - and that this was comparable to what we were seeing in Homeland."
Lewis was last month invited to attend a State Dinner at the White House to mark the visit of Prime Minister David Cameron and later quipped that he spoke to the president to get a "heads-up on any foreign policy moves" for the show.
Homeland continues on Channel 4 on Sundays at 9pm in the UK. Season two premieres in the US this September.

Brilliant show indeed, clever and great cliff hangers. Had a thought today, wish Clare Danes character had been called 'Angela Chase' all grown up...nice thought though as I miss MSCL!

I quickly got into this series and it's proved to be much better than I originally thought it would be. Looking forward to the second season.
