'The Playboy Club' exec: 'There's a false perception of the show'

's executive producer Chad Hodge
has urged viewers not to judge the show before seeing it.
The NBC drama, which premieres tonight, has already been criticised by the Parents' Television Council
and women's rights leader Gloria Steinem
However, Hodge told The Hollywood Reporter
that he does not think the show has been represented fairly.
"I think there's a perception of the show that's false," he said. "The controversy that's come from both the left and the right is coming from people who have admitted that they haven't seen the show.
"It can only help when your show is talked about. What is great is that people have all these differing opinions and points of view on Playboy
and if it's a good or bad thing, that's inherently dramatised in our show. These women talk about these very things, these characters. And they have lives outside the club. The show is not just about them as Bunnies, though I'd argue that there's nothing wrong with a woman using her sexuality to get what she wants if she wants to. That's her choice."
However, Hodge also revealed that he is not trying to convey any kind of political message through the show.
"What the show really is is a sexy, fun soap that's really glittery and fabulous and has a tone to it - a tiny bit of a pop tone, which is very intentional," he said. "When I set out to create this show, the first word out of my mouth was 'entertaining'.
"Yes, the characters are deep and the stories are intricate and it's about real people, but the goals of this show are not political in any way. It's not supposed to be a history lesson... This is more like Chicago
, Moulin Rouge
and All That Jazz
, Desperate Housewives
. This is a fun, sexy soap."The Playboy Club
