The network has ordered ten more episodes of the series to be screened in 2013.
The Steven Spielberg-produced alien drama chronicles the aftermath of an extra-terrestrial attack that has left much of the world incapacitated.
The show was rumoured to have secured renewal last month, as it has proved popular with viewers overseas as well in the US, where it is one of the highest rated cable dramas during the summer season.
Michael Wright, head of programming for TNT, said of the announcement: "Falling Skies is television storytelling at its very best, a powerful drama that's told on both an epic scale and on a deeply personal level.
"We can't wait to see what DreamWorks Television and Falling Skies' terrific production team and cast members have in store for season three."
The second season of Falling Skies is currently airing on TNT in the US, and FX in the UK.

I haven't got into a tv show like this for a while. Started off well and remained solid even into the 2nd season. Interesting to see how it wraps up at the end hopefully 3rd will be just as good

On ep 8 of series 1 really good news since V/ Flashforward/the Event i didn't think scifi tv shows would last longer than 1/2 seasons.

I haven't got into Falling Skies, but I think thats cos I'm still annoyed at the way they left V... Why wont they AT LEAST do a TV movie to end the V story?!! ANNOYING!

Totally agree the V was amazing, especially when it was really getting interesting the idiots decided to axed the show.

I watch and enjoy this but I can't quite figure out why, the characters are unbelievably stupid at times. The second season has been much better than the first though, and I am happy to see a third made. They've toned down the "we are the military and therefore better than the civilians" aspects that irritated me at the start. Still, I enjoy, so I watch.
