The actor speculated on why he has yet to win an Emmy for his role as Don Draper on Mad Men in a recent interview with TV Line.
Hamm said: "There aren't many moments that you can point to and be like, 'That's the one that's going to win you an award' or something.
"But if you look at it as a whole, it's a pretty substantial thing to point to as an actor. I think there are plenty of examples of that in the history of television."
Hamm went on to reveal that he aspires to have a career like that of True Grit star Jeff Bridges.
"One of the people whose careers I look at as an inspiration is a guy like Jeff Bridges, who has been around since he was 18 years old, has done work in drama and crazy Big Lebowski comedy and now is finally getting recognised as a genius."
It was recently reported that Hamm is being considered for a Judd Apatow comedy opposite actress Melissa McCarthy.
Last week, the actor said that Mad Men will end in three years once its current three-season contract with AMC expires.
Mad Men is expected to return in 2012.

Some of the best television actors miss out Emmy's for shows that are here today gone the next season. Larry Hagman never got any major awards for his role in Dallas shocking I know. I think if he does not win the emmy I will make him one, Don Draper is a tv legend.

It should be Hamm's Emmy. Bryan Cranston isn't eligible this year because of Breaking Bad being held off until July, and I can't think of anyone who deserves it better than Jon Hamm, whose drunken and broken version of Don Draper that he showed in Season 4 is so deserving of an Emmy.
