Novak, who plays Ryan Howard on the NBC comedy, will no longer make regular contributions as a writer or actor.
However, TV Guide reports that he will likely make some recurring appearances as Ryan, continue to be part of The Office's creative team and potentially direct another episode.
James Spader (Robert California) and Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor) have also departed The Office, while showrunner Paul Lieberstein and Rainn Wilson are expected to leave for spinoff series The Farm featuring the character of Dwight Schrute.
Executive producer Greg Daniels, who helped adapt The Office from the original Ricky Gervais series, will be brought back to full time for the ninth season.
Despite the changes, Lieberstein insisted recently that the show could last for ten more years.

I think Mr Lieberstein is right in saying it can continue essentially indefinitely. As long as they keep rotating in new characters it'll work. Like andy wasn't an original cast but the show seems impossible without him now. And James Spader was a great addition for a while as well.
