NBC has announced that Cee Lo Green
and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine will act as the first two celebrity coaches on The Voice
In a press release on Monday, the network revealed that the stars would join two other as-yet unknown artists to coach aspiring singers on the show.
Each artist will have his or her own team from the initial "blind audition" stage and will work with their chosen contestants in the hope of leading one lucky musician to the final prize.
"Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine represent the essence of The Voice
. They are two of the hottest music artists right now and their voices are instantly recognisable," said NBC and Universal Media Studios executive vice president Paul Telegdy in a statement.
"These amazing artists are the perfect inspiration for our contestants to look up to as they begin their journeys from 'voices' to true artists - and any hopeful singer would be incredibly lucky to have either one as their coach."
Green also expressed his excitement at the role, explaining: "It's an honour for me to be able to help mould a malleable and new talent in such a fashion as The Voice
"Being a coach on The Voice
is a substantial responsibility, and I take it with sincerity and distinction."
Levine added: "I was absolutely thrilled to be invited by Mark Burnett to join The Voice
as a coach. I look forward to working with these singers and helping them push forward throughout the competition to make their musical dreams become a reality." The Voice
, hosted by Carson Daly, will premiere on April 26.
