The X Factor USA winner Melanie Amaro has described signing for Epic Records as a "dream come true".
Epic Records announced today (January 3) that the 19-year-old singer will work on her debut album alongside its chairman and CEO LA Reid, who was also a judge on The X Factor.
Confirming the signing in a statement, Reid said: "I joined The X Factor to be able to discover undeniable talent such as Melanie. I am pleased that she is now signed to Epic Records because I believe we have only scratched the surface on uncovering her talent and her inevitable journey to super-stardom."
Amaro said that she is "so excited" to begin working on her first album alongside Reid and her X Factor mentor Simon Cowell, saying: "This is a dream come true for me."
The teenager had teased that she was signed to Epic Records in a tweet to Reid this week, describing him as her "new chairman".
Cowell added in the signing press release: "We all agreed that Epic would be the right fit for Melanie. LA made it clear that he wanted the opportunity to work with her and with his track record, you can't say no to that."
X Factor's season finale on December 22 saw Amaro triumphing over fellow finalists Josh Krajcik and Chris Rene to take home the $5 million prize and opportunity to star in a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial to air during this year's Super Bowl.
Amaro had previously told reporters that she was hoping to work with Reid in her career, saying: "He's a great producer and mentor. He's wonderful, so I could see myself working with him."
Reid has helped in the success of a string of major artists including Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne, Mariah Carey and Pink.
As for what sort of album fans can expect, the star has kept tight-lipped on her plans, saying only: "Right now I'm going to keep that as a surprise and not give it away. I'll just say that you should look forward to it and I'm going to make some great music. The fans should really listen to what I put out."
X Factor has been renewed for a second season by Fox.
