'X Factor' USA: Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul discuss judges' rivalry - video

The X Factor USA judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul discuss rivalries between themselves and fellow panellists Nicole Scherzinger and LA Reid in a new promo video.

In the clip, Cowell admits to being intimidated by Reid as the mogul has had more hit records than himself, and vows to "up his game" on the show.

Abdul concedes that there is a "comfort level" between the panellists, but insists that they are all still highly competitive. She also claims that the judges fight over who will mentor which category of contestants in the latter stages of the competition.

Reid reveals that he loves working with the group, particularly Scherzinger, whose musical opinion he values since he feels that she is still close to the artistic process as a working and touring singer.

Cowell, Abdul, Scherzinger and Reid will reveal their favourite artists in an upcoming radio special called 'The Judges' Ultimate Picks'.

X Factor USA host Steve Jones recently said that he often feels like a 'shoulder to cry on' for the contestants.

The X Factor USA's two-night premiere airs on Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday, September 22 at 8pm ET on Fox.
