Shane (Jon Bernthal) and Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) were both killed off in season two's closing episodes.
"You'll have to find out when you watch it - but there are certainly deaths coming out throughout the [third] season," Mazzara told Collider.
"And this is definitely a show where we take that stuff seriously. I think we showed that in our last few [season two] episodes. [Those] sort of hard-hitting emotional deaths are still going to be a part of the show for as long as it'll be around."
English actor David Morrissey will join the cast of The Walking Dead in season three as ruthless tyrant The Governor.
"[Series creator] Robert [Kirkman]'s got this great character named The Governor and we've cast David Morrissey to do that," said Mazzara. "Trust me - he is a lot to handle. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the group are going to have their hands full."
The Walking Dead returns to AMC in the US on October 14. In the UK, the series will air on FX later this year.

I dont think you can take anything from the comics in regards to who will die, they've changed it so much already.
I have to say though, I wont be sad if Lori dies, great actress - super annoying character.

Please kill off Laurie she is so unlikeable i'm not sure wether it's the actress portraying her or the character itself but during the season 2 finale i had my fingers crossed for a walker to grab her!

The only death I would like to see would that little idiot Carl and take his hat with him.

I'm way too excited for The Walking Dead to return. Why can't it be October already? My predictions are that Beth (Emily Kinney) will be the first to die. [SPOILERS AHEAD] In the comics, Hershel has two twin daughters, who were not included in the TV-series adaptation. They survive the farm invasion and make it to the prison. It is here, they are brutally murdered by an inmate, which serves as a way to give Maggie more of a story. After this killing, Maggie seeks revenge by murdering the inmate. I think Beth will be their replacement. I don't think it will be extremely early in the series, I think toward the middle.
In regards to Lori and her unborn child, I am not sure if they will stick to the comic book storyline and kill her off. In the comic books, Dale makes it to the prison. Furthermore, Sophie who died in season 2, doesn't die at all in the comic book version. This is why I'm not sure, as they're not afraid to break the storyline. My bets are that T-dog could die.
