Commenting on The Governor's role in the show, Robert Kirkman - creator of the original Walking Dead graphic novels - said: "Seeing The Walking Dead come to life on AMC has been a real thrill for me, obviously, and moving into season three I'm even more excited than ever because now I feel like we're really getting to 'the good stuff'.
"Having The Governor in the mix is going to fundamentally change the show in all kinds of awesome and exciting ways. And David Morrissey totally rocks."
Kirkman has also insisted that The Governor will be just as ruthless on screen as in his novels.
"The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic," he told TV Guide. "I think that he's definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by, but also somewhat terrified of.
"He's definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down."
Morrissey previously stated that he intends to make the character of The Governor his own.
The Walking Dead season three will air on FX in the UK later this year.

Looks like he's going to playing the same part as he did in BBC's Survivors. Leading a group of survivors and being a ruthless bad man.

He does look like how I pictured the character after reading rise of the governor

" We are not going to be watering him down." Yes you will, a lot of his stuff is too graphic to be shown on AMC.

But AMC is a cable channel, therefore they can show overly graphic things unlike the network channels. I mean they've already shown quite a lot of graphic stuff over the past two seasons, I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

I doubt very much that they will show what Michonne did to him, I found it shocking for a comic let alone on a TV screen.

I agree, a lot of the Governer's stories from th ecomic will be heavily cut I think. Especially the scenes with him and Michonne.

Yep! It's obvious that the Governor is replacing Shane. I can't wait for the new series! Excited...

You can tell that he doesn't look much like the Governor in the comic.

to be fair not many of the actors who play them in the series resemble the comic version of them
