The Fox sci-fi drama will return for 13 final episodes in late 2012, with Wyman teasing that the flash-forward episode 'Letters of Transit' will have "further implications" for the show.
"The critical question is always why do we do flashbacks or flash-forwards and for us there is always a reason," Wyman told SFX.
"Does 'Letters Of Transit' have further implications? It does. You need to understand what it is, or was, in order to fully grasp the thematic things we want to tell this year."
The showrunner added that it is "safe to say" that Fringe will return to the future world of 2036.
"It's good to say that future is important to our storytelling but it's not the be-all and end-all," he said.
"Part of our storytelling is about reveals and re-contextualising what you think you know and what you've seen and putting it in a different mind frame for the viewer."
Fringe will remain in its Friday 9/8c slot on Fox. In the UK, the series airs on Sky1.

I am predicting that the majority of the season will be leading up to the Fringe team getting trapped in Amber as we saw them in the future, then the finale continuing on from Letters Of Transit showing how they save the day in the future. I guess we will see.
