Cuse revealed to TV Guide that the series finds Norman Bates - played by Anthony Perkins in the original - as a 16-year-old already showing some personality peculiarities.
"His mother, Norma, is in her early 40s and very hot," he explained. "We didn't get to know her in the movie because she was a corpse... spoiler alert!
"We're reinterpreting the mythology a bit, and we might discover that Norman has a sibling."
The show's pilot will reportedly see the Bates family purchasing the run-down motel that will become the Bates Motel.
Cuse's fellow Lost producer Damon Lindelof has recently signed on to produce a new HBO series based on Tom Perotta's acclaimed novel The Leftovers.
