has revealed that he wanted his final two Digital Shorts to be his "goodbye" to Saturday Night Live
The comic - who recently announced he is leaving SNL
- told The AP
that he did not want an on-air sendoff
like his fellow departing co-star Kristen Wiig received.
"I consider the last two Digital Shorts my goodbye. I kind of built them in that way because I sensed this was the end for me," he explained.
The penultimate Digital Short
featured the likes of Jon Hamm, Justin Bieber and Will Ferrell, while his final sketch revived the popular 'Lazy Sunday' skit with Chris Parnell.
Samberg went on to say that he felt the timing was right to leave SNL
particularly because he was pleased with last season.
"I'm really proud of the work I did this season, but it felt like it was going to be tough to keep it up. That's part of what influenced my decision," he revealed.
The 33-year-old actor previously admitted that exiting Saturday Night Live was bittersweet
