Bates wrote on Twitter: "Yea, Tweeters. Sad news today. Harry's Law will not be renewed for a 3rd season. We are all terribly sad. Many thanks for all your support."
Creator David E Kelley recently said that he feared the worst for the future of the show.
"Word seems to be out that we're a show for old people," he joked. "If we could just more get younger viewers and keep some of our regular viewers from dying we'd be feeling better."
Harry's Law joins recently cancelled NBC series Awake, Bent, Are You There, Chelsea? and Best Friends Forever.
However, comedies Parks and Recreation, Up All Night and Whitney have all been renewed.
NBC has also picked up a number of pilots to series, including Jimmy Fallon's Guys With Kids, Anne Heche's Save Me, Dane Cook's radio station-set Next Caller, White House comedy 1600 Penn, and vet sitcom Animal Practice.
Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy's show The New Normal and Matthew Perry sports comedy Go On have also been given the green light.

What?!!!!! I am no great love of American TV but when a good show comes along I am hooked. Harry's Law is one of them. What are NBC thinking? I object to it being referred to as an 'oldies' program. So what if it is, at least we have good taste. This was a brilliant show & Kathy Bates was incredible. How she remembers her lines I'll never know. I loved it & am shocked that NBC have pulled the plug. It shows they are not in touch with the people that matter, an intelligent audience!!.

What is wrong with the powers that be at NBC? Harry's Law was one of the few absolutely engrossing shows on TV for intelligent adults. Are they going to replace it with another nonsensical and utterly stupid reality show? Why are they pandering to the lowest common denominator of TV viewers? Is there anybody with a brain left at this station who will dare to reverse this decision?

So Sad that Harrys Law has gone the way of other good US programmes, why oh why do these networks not allow enough time for shows to become established. They are too quick to pull the plug.

A great show, the creator says that he thinks there is a perception that it is for ''old people'' I think maybe that it means that it is for mature intelligent people not hairheads who seem to be the ones the programme makers aim for with such a lot of the rubbish on offer these days

I can't believe this. And I was just getting into Harry's law as I hadn't watched Season 1 so I'm well gutted right now. It was funny, intelligent and I loved all the characters esp. Harry and Rosanna Remic. What's going on with all the REALLY GOOD American shows being cancelled and leaving us with all the crap ones. This, along with the cancelling of Awake has got me down. I loved them both. Too bad. *sobs*
