The Happy Days star has been linked to the part of Robert, the father of Ava (Maya Rudolph), TV Guide reports.
Up All Night's executive producer Emily Spivey said the team is "excited" about Winkler, adding: "Maya Rudolph just adores him."
Spivey also revealed that Robert is a "more grounded and warm, loving parent" than Ava's mother, adding: "Even though he's flighty and a little irresponsible, he's a creative type who writes children's books.
"Henry, in the roles he's played, exudes a warmth and whimsy, which is why we thought of him."
As well as starring in Happy Days, Winkler has had roles in Arrested Development, Out of Practice and, more recently, Royal Pains.
Eve Best, Steven Pasquale and Alanis Morissette have also signed up for guest roles in Up All Night, which airs on Thursdays on NBC.

I doubt there's ever been an article written about Henry Winker which doesn't mention his stint in Happy Days. If anyone ever did a column on the guy which said he was famous for being, for instance, the coach in The Waterboy, he would probably spontaniously combust with happiness.
