'The Blues Brothers' are back: Friday Fiver

Are you anxious to see Jake and Elwood hit the road again, or should they be allowed to rest in peace? In this week's Friday Fiver, we consider some potential star choices - some serious, some less so - for the new show.
The Old Guard
Alright, so Dan Aykroyd appears to have already ruled himself out of a starring role, claiming that he'll play the Blues's parole officer instead, but wouldn't it be great to see the original Elwood Blues back in that suit? And with John Belushi sadly no longer with us, his brother Jim - who has already toured with the Blues Brothers - would make a fitting replacement.
The Also-Rans
But if not Aykroyd and Belushi, then how about the stars of unloved film sequel Blues Brothers 2000? With roles in Damages and Community, John Goodman (Mighty Mack) is no stranger to television and could always reprise his role. Plus, former child star J Evan Bonifant (the precocious Buster) hasn't been up to much lately - we're sure he'd happily don the suit and shades once more.
The Tried and Tested
Neil Patrick Harris is a bona fide television star thanks to How I Met Your Mother and he's also got his fair share of musical talent. Perhaps he's the logical choice to star in a Blues Brothers series - we know he looks good in a suit. He could even bring along his HIMYM co-star Jason Segel to play his on-screen bro.
The Hollywood Remake
Maybe a dash of Hollywood glitz and glamour is what's needed? Hugh Jackman may be best known for playing X-Men's Wolverine, but he's also a Tony award-winning Broadway star - does he have the required combination of charisma and musical talent? As for his on-screen partner, Joaquin Phoenix proved he could sing in Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line and is in desperate need of a career revival.
Glee meets Route 66
"We're not trying to replicate Dan and John but Jake and Elwood," writer Anne Beatts has insisted. "[The show] would be Route 66 meets Glee and it all goes to hell in a handbasket." Blues Brothers fans may cringe at the idea, but could we end up with the likes of Matthew Morrison and Chris Colfer driving the Bluesmobile? Stranger things have happened. Alright, maybe not.

Who cares, just let them ruin everything with remakes. Imagination is dead. Does anyone have the capacity to give a toss anymore?

Considering the utter failure of the sequel in recapturing the spirit of the original, I've always thought they should've gone completely the other way. If I were to do a third movie, I'd call it "Elwood" (no trying to replace Belushi this time), film it as though it were an indie film, have it be a small scale character piece about the aging blues musician missing his brother. It'd be total Oscar-bait.

No, no and thrice no! BB2000 should never have happened, so this certainly doesn't seem like a good idea to me!
