The 21-year-old, who played James Cook in the E4 show during series three and four, said that he is "buzzin'" about reprising his role as part of next year's collection of special episodes.
The Harry Brown actor also revealed that Skins co-creator Jamie Brittain is currently penning the character's return.
"Buzzin to get my cook out again on e4," O'Connell wrote. "Jamie Brittain's writing him up as we speak so should make for a bangin skins. G'won Jim lad!"
Brittain confirmed: "I see that Jack OC has tweeted about Skins 7. So yes, he's in it, and yes, I'm writing the script he's in.
"I'm guessing we'll do a proper announcement confirming cast etc pretty soon. Wont say anything yet, but I think you'll be pleased."
However, he went on to tease: "I will say this though. It's not what you're expecting."
Skins will bow out with one final series in 2013, consisting of three films broken up into six parts with a number of former actors expected to reprise their roles.

I watched the first gen when I was 16/17. I'm assuming that the three "movies" will include one for each generation, so I'll probably watch my generation's one. Will be interesting to see what Sid, Cassie, Tony and the gang are up to now.
