"Steven [Moffat] and I have both said we thoroughly enjoyed working together, and then there was me being in Wales so the media put two and two together," she explained.
Asked if she'd be excited to play the first female Doctor, Pulver added: "Yes and no. Not if it meant the end of the Doctor Who franchise, because the fans aren't keen on it."
The 31-year-old star also admitted that she has "no idea" if Moffat and Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss plans to bring back her character Adler.
"If they want to leave her as a one-episode wonder, then I completely back them," she insisted. "[But] if they do bring her back, I'm sure it will be in the most unexpected, dynamic way they could possibly do."
Pulver previously told Digital Spy that she was keen to reunite with Moffat and Gatiss on Sherlock.
"It would be a privilege to work with Steven, Mark and the entire team [again] on this project and on other projects," she said.
Doctor Who will return to BBC One in the autumn. A third series of Sherlock will begin shooting in January.

Watch Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Gatiss discuss Sherlock below:

NO! Time lords and Time Ladys have always been clearly separate and then you have ordinary Gallifreyans on top.... The Doctor simply cannot become a lady.... it would go against everything the show has done for the past 49 years. I know its Sci Fi fantasy and all but within the storyline, no. And god no, not an American Doctor as Dominic below suggests... CBS may as well just do a remake then as they are doing with Sherlock :D

A female Doctor? Unbelievable!
A time-travelling man who consistently breaks the laws of physics? A police box that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside? A screwdriver that can fix innumerate problems? Millions of people thinking about one person makes said person tranform back to his normal self after being aged and shrunk.
All perfectly plausible.
Dear god.

The Dotor may be slightly different with every incarnation, but HE is essentially the same character every time. A black Doctor would be interesting, especially with the popularity of uber-geek Will.i.am at a high at the moment. People will hate me for saying this, but I'd also welcome an American Doctor (Someone like Zachary Quinto...?).
But a female Doctor... it wouln't work. On some level, all of the companions fall in love with the Doctor. He is a geek, a boffin, a know-all. Most importantly, he is halfway between rage and compassion, a comination that would be overpowered by any maternal instinct.

Will.i.am??
Will.i.am??
That's the best you can come up with? A guy that can't even sing and irritates pretty much everyone, you would be happy to see play The Doctor? Jeez at least name an ACTOR!!

Female time lord? Yes, but not the Doctor, he's male and needs a female buddy. Only reason for a female Doctor, for new stories.Keep him the way he is.
