Spencer Matthews has spoken of his disappointment at The Bachelor's low ratings.

The Made in Chelsea star is currently fronting the Channel 5 reality TV series. He explained that he has had a "tough" time on the show, but that it has not done as well as he had hoped.

When asked if he was pleased with last Friday's ratings of around 500,000, he told The Sun: "No, not really."

He added: "It's very difficult, I've had a bit of a tough time with it. Ratings are down and it's a shame.

"I don't want to make excuses because I think the show is a good show. I enjoy it and I hope some people out there do as well."

Matthews stated that high profile sporting events may have led to the low ratings, and that he has no regrets over joining the series.

"I think with the Euros and the Olympics going on at the same time, especially in Britain it's quite a difficult time to compete on TV," he hypothesised.

"It's quite a lot of pressure to do as it's all eyes on you, it's not like on Made in Chelsea where you can rock up a bit hungover at times, it doesn't work on The Bachelor. I had to be on better form more frequently.

"It was very kind of [Bachelor producers] Ricochet and Channel 5 to back me nonetheless, and I think it comes down to the fact that I had good chemistry and they thought I would be the best bachelor for the show."

Spencer Matthews will return to Made in Chelsea for its upcoming fourth series later this year.
