'Being Human': Is it the right time for the show to end?

The news this morning that Being Human will end after its current fifth series was obviously upsetting for the millions of fans of the BBC Three cult hit.BBC Three turns 10 this weekend and Toby Whithouse's supernatural series is arguably the channel's proudest and most successful drama project across the last decade.

One Digital Spy reader perhaps summed up fans' feelings well in a simple comment on the news story: "NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Quite.
Unlike previous BBC Three cult shows that have been axed (The Fades, Doctor Who Confidential), the move to end Being Human appears to be a consensus decision with show creator and writer Toby Whithouse.
Whithouse has described the original concept of Being Human as "preposterous" and lauded the BBC for its "unprecedented level of creative latitude" and support for the show over the last five years. He also suggests that the series ending will allow room for similar shows to blossom. Time to get that Fades petition back up and running?

But what do you think about the decision to call time on the series?
Digital Spy rated last year's fourth series, which brought together the new cast of Michael Socha, Damien Molony and Kate Bracken, as one of the show's best yet. In fact, we even rated it above Doctor Who in our Top 25 Shows of 2012 countdown.
So has the decision to end the storylines of Tom, Alex and Hal been too hasty?
Or are you secretly happy that Whithouse is getting the chance to bow out in style, on his own terms and while the show is still strong and popular. Is it better to go out with a bang than a whimper?
Is Being Human ending too soon?

I would'v e like one more season with Alex, Tom and Hal. One of my favourite shows, shame its ending.

Possibly the program has run its course. Although I am starting to prefer the 3 main replacements. The others got a bit whiney towards their end.

I'm gutted - the last two episodes have been awesome and just as the three lead characters are starting to gel they end it :(

As much as I love Being Human, it has run its course. You can't get any better than battling with the Devil.

For me Being Human has been one of my tv highlights over the last four years. I was disappointed when they made this announcement but can see why they thought it was time. So much has been covered in the previous series they were bound to start repeating senarios/storylines. When you have done so much in four series how can you take it further? I don't know, I'm not a writer or producer, but sadly it feels right. I feel gutted for the current leads though as they are excellent and they will be remembered as playing the lead roles when the show was axed. They should have had longer together and this is where the six episode series, instead of the eight, is just so wrong.
