'X Factor' Jade Ellis: 'Gary's fag ash breath comment was mean'

Eliminated X Factor contestant Jade Ellis has said that Gary Barlow was "very mean" to describe her mentor Tulisa Contostavlos as having "fag ash breath" on live TV.

The mother-of-one, who was voted out last night (October 28) after landing in the bottom two with Union J, stated that Barlow's comment was not only uncalled for, but untrue.


Asked by Digital Spy if Contostavlos does indeed have "fag ash breath", Ellis replied: "Not that I've ever noticed. She does enjoy a fag, but no.

"I think there was no need for the personal remarks, on both sides."

Ellis said that she could see Contostavlos getting revenge on Barlow by winning the show with her "very strong" remaining acts Ella Henderson and Lucy Spraggan, adding: "Hopefully she'll have the last laugh."



On reports that Spraggan, who was given a bye this week due to ill health, is threatening to quit the show over performing covers, Ellis said: "Lucy came into the competition knowing that she would be expected to do covers, so I can't really see her having a problem.

"She's capable of doing them, she does them when she gigs. I'm sure its just the fact that she's ill, but obviously there will be speculation."

She added: "[Lucy]'s totally gone off the radar, so I'm assuming that she's so ill she's in a blanket, wrapped in bed, trying to recover for this weekend."

Ellis also agreed that she may have been sacrificed due to the judges' reluctance to go to Deadlock again, noting: "They have to make a call at some point and be seen to be judging."
