Jones has appeared as the main female host since August last year when she replaced Christine Bleakley.
It was claimed that the BBC is holding auditions due to poor ratings compared to this time last year. Producers were also said to be concerned about the lack of chemistry between Jones and co-host Matt Baker, who joined the show in January.
Total Wipeout presenter Amanda Byram was named as a possible replacement, who screen-tested for the show before losing out to Jones.
However, a BBC spokesperson has told Digital Spy that the story is "categorically not true", adding: "There is no question of The One Show wanting to replace Alex."
Alex Jones is rumoured to have signed up for this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

If Jones goes all my prayers will be answered. To top that they can get rid of Baker & Evans. Bring on some new and lively blood.

If the BBC say the story is not true then I have to believe them. The rapport between Matt and Alex seems fine and it's a shame that Alex's possible fate is being paraded in this public way. But I suppose it comes with the territory. I hope that they both continue to work on The One Show and I especially value Matt's contribution as he manages to put guests at their ease and interviews with sensitivity and charm.

Well, it would be better for Alex to have the time off in order to do Strictly as those who have more than one job to do while doing it always seem to do badly, well unless you're the Fabulous Matt Baker who did three jobs and still nearly won the damn thing! Don't mind Alex really, she seems nice but still a bit of an Autocutie. Don't know if I would miss her either though.
