Sony Xperia Play Android 4.0 update cancelled

Sony's Xperia Play will no longer receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update. The company cited stability and consistency issues as the reason behind its decision, according to a blog post.

"After extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich," Sony wrote.
The Xperia Play, touted as the first PlayStation-certified smartphone, was scheduled to receive Android 4.0 sometime between the end of May and the beginning of June.
Sony previously brought Google's latest operating system to its Tablet S devices, and will roll it out for other phones in its Xperia range in the near future.
A next generation model of the Xperia Play with a dual keyboard is rumoured to be in the works.

Wish I didn't bloody bother with this phone now! Still got 12 months on my contract though.

"stability and consistency issues"? I bet you the CyanogenMod team have solved them.
This phone failed so hard for Sony, and it wasn't even a bad piece of kit. It was never what Sony portrayed it to me though.

I have an HTC One X and android ICS is great but not massively different to the versions before it if I'm honest, Jelly Bean is going to see the massive changes and I'm hoping my phone will get it... should do though with what its got under the bonnet.
