The app is a real-time electronic programme guide (EPG) service, offering the ability to organise favourite channels and navigate available content on a second screen, such as a smartphone or tablet computer.
However, Zeebox also gives the ability to interact with fellow viewers to gain recommendations and discuss the programmes you are watching in real time.
Billed as a "virtual couch", the app features integrated chat systems for interaction, along with links to the major social networks, and other resources.
The new company has now launched version 2.0 of Zeebox, bringing the TV companion app to the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Alongside the EPG services, the app also has an engine that extracts what is on the screen and throws up a series of tags - anyone pressing one of the tags will be able to access related content to what they they are watching.
For example, Tom Cruise's appearance on BBC Two's Top Gear would result in his name appearing as a tag, providing links to the actor's Wikipedia page, on-demand movies and other content.
The app also features tags to any brands or companies shown on TV in real time, giving viewers the chance to purchase items such as clothing or soundtracks.
