'Coronation Street' Ken's returning ex-lover: Who is Wendy Crozier?

Wendy Crozier, one of Ken Barlow's many former lovers, will return to Coronation Street later this summer after 22 years.

Played by Roberta Kerr, the former council secretary's presence in Weatherfield in the late 1980s caused the break up of Ken and Deidre's marriage. Could lightning strike twice?

As was announced on Friday, Wendy will bump into Ken at Weatherfield's primary school, where they are both running for the role of new governor. They then decide to see each other again as friends.

Wendy sprang into Ken's life in 1988 when he edited the Weatherfield Gazette. Both were opposed to corruption at the local council, so Wendy leaked confidential information to Ken with the view of exposing and stopping the council bosses' treachery.

Deirdre, who worked with Wendy at the council, found out about the pair's scheming and suspected their relationship wasn't completely professional.

Some time later - after Ken and Wendy had all but lost touch - Deirdre was threatened with the sack and duly forced to confess to her boss about the source of her husband's leak.

Guilty Ken offered Wendy a role at his newspaper when she was sacked from the council, bringing the pair closer together once again.

Their affair started after they shared a kiss on Ken's birthday - Wendy cooked him a meal, while Deirdre had completely forgotten about Ken's special day.

However, their romance was to be short-lived as Ken struggled to leave Deirdre. When Deirdre walked out on him, his emotional breakdown cost him his job at the Gazette and culminated in a near-suicide attempt.

Meanwhile, Wendy showed a ruthless streak days later when she accepted the vacant editor position at the newspaper. She made her last appearance in May 1990, and hasn't been spoken of since.

Interestingly, a young Tracy formed a strong bond with Miss Crozier. Will the pair strike up a similar friendship over two decades on? But whatever the outcome, Deirdre's in line for another cold winter.
