Coronation Street bosses have edited scenes after they were deemed too similar to the death of a Stone Roses fan, Digital Spy has learned.Christopher Brahney was reported missing after seeing the 'Fools Gold' band play at Manchester's Heaton Park before being found dead at Salford Quays on Monday (July 9).
Producers have decided to remove specific details of a body being found in a canal out of respect for the late 22-year-old's family and friends.

An ITV spokesperson announced: "The producers of Coronation Street have taken the decision to remove references in this Friday's show, which although scripted and filmed weeks ago, bore some similarities to the manner in which Christopher Brahney's body was found.
"Like many others, we were extremely saddened by the news of his death, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family."
The statement added: "What we have removed is multiple references to a body being found in a canal. We have made the change so the finding referenced by a policeman is now broader, simply a body being found, no reference to where."

Troubled alcoholic Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) disappeared in the plot, culminating in father Ken and estranged wife Leanne being told that a body found nearby matches Peter's description.
However, after identifying the body at the police morgue, an emotional Ken and Leanne are relieved that the corpse does not belong to Peter.

The Stone Roses had publicly appealed for help after Brahney's disappearance on June 29.

It's an unfortunate coincidence that the storyline reflects real life in such an eerie way but it's simply a manner of respect to change the script. They aren't exactly changing the entire direction of the storyline for goodness sake so it will hardly ruin the storyline to show a bit of consideration to the dead man's family, wether they watch Corrie or not.

The guy being a fan of the Stone Roses is the least relevent bit of the story.

Don't know why people have a problem with this, it may or may not hurt the family to keep the canal storyline but it definitely won't hurt anyone to take it out.

after their son got murdered and you think that is nice showing a dead man in a canal when their son was murdered and put in the canal? I dont know about you but if that was my son and they did that, thats just taking the piss and I will go mad.

Murdered? Nothing of the sort has been proven. Put down the Daily Mail and come back to reason,

Completely agree with corrie in this decision, I know if it were my family member I'd have wanted them to change it, whether it's real or not it doesn't matter, well done corrie.

Yeah but if the family have just lost their son / brother etc I somehow doubt they are going to be watching Coronation Street.
