Hardly soaring. EastEnders deserved more than that last night and the past few episodes have been great.

given the state of British society today it doesn't surprise me that people prefer to watch repeats of murder and divorce and affairs, if there was an award for recycled story writer of the century corrie writers would win hands down.

Terrible rating for eastenders it is truly at a low point at the moment and resembles a british neighbours. I watched for the first time in a few months. I wish I was in charge to sort it out. How can people say that this was a commendable episode standards need to be raised or enders could face the axe. Why has no one stepped in such as john yorke or danny cohen.

Eastenders won't face the axe, it was a boiling hot day on friday. Ratings were back up on monday and combined ratings normally actually are just ahead of Corrie. Great episode on friday for Eastenders though, shame so many missed it (probably watched it on iplayer like I did)

You reap what you sow and that's exactly what's happened for EastEnders. It may well of been one of the best episodes ever last night but people have just had enough of the inconsistency (myself included). You get one week of excellent episodes and then 5 or 6 weeks of not so good episodes. Some episodes are totally dire. As to the character of Mandy Salter, she is played by an excellent actress, had the potential to be a good character, however for 7 out of 8 months her story has just went around in circles. Prior to Christmas we had 3 months of her playing practical jokes on Ian while Kat and Alfie spent nearly every episode telling Ian that she was a gold-digger. Since Lucy's return all I've seen when I've tuned in is Lucy plotting Mandy's downfall. Is it any wonder therefore that casual viewers when faced with sunshine or Groundhog Mandy choose the former? There's only one story in EE right now remotely interesting and that is Ben. But even that is dragging.

I completely agree with what you said about the 'inconsistency'. Most people don't seem to realise that that's where EastEnders has gone wrong. It's a shame.
Well done Corrie though.

i agree with what you have said lanekent. ee is like the childrens nursery ryhme, 'when its good very very good and when its bad its horrid.'
when ee is on form and at the top of its game like fridays ep its simply the best and not even corrie comes close, but these eps are few and far between. perhaps we have to wait until christmas day for the next gem.
corrie may not reach the heights of ee, but it is consistant and rarely lets you down or makes you feel short changed. you know what you get with corrie, a comfy pair of slippers. yes its not very realistic and at times is camper than elton john and can be very end of the pier. but we care about the characters, its apart of our life and that is why corrie will still be around in another 50yrs when the others will not!
