The former EastEnders executive producer will work with creative director Tony Wood on creating new shows from April, reports Broadcast Now.
Kirkwood previously worked at the All3Media company as producer of Hollyoaks.
Tony Wood described Kirkwood as "one of the best young producers of popular drama around".
He added: "His time at EastEnders garnered a clean sweep of awards and massive ratings hits. It's terrific that he's returned to Lime, where he'll work alongside me developing both scripted and reality drama."
Kirkwood left his position at EastEnders earlier this month after two years, during which time he overran storylines including Kat and Alfie Moon's return, the death of Pat Butcher and the controversial 'baby swap' plot.
Series producer Lorraine Newman will act as executive producer until a replacement is confirmed.
Lime Pictures' current reality shows include ITV2's The Only Way Is Essex and MTV's Geordie Shore.
The production company is currently facing a lawsuit from Big Brother winner Brian Belo, who claims that they used elements of his own ideas for The Only Way is Essex.

Tony Wood is ruining Hollyoaks by bringing back that band Daytona Lights!
