An Emmerdale insider confirmed the news to Digital Spy this afternoon (October 30), but details of Rachel's exit storyline are being kept tightly under wraps.

Oaten joined the cast of Emmerdale in summer 2011 and Rachel's feisty nature quickly caused a stir in the village.

Rachel's arrival also soon paved the way for the introduction of her on-screen family, the Spencers.

Viewers have since seen a softer side to Rachel, who is currently at the centre of a huge secret in the village.

Fans know that Jai Sharma is the father of Rachel's baby son Archie and next month's episodes see the businessman's wife Charity finally discover the shocking truth, leading to fireworks.

James Hooton, who plays Rachel's boyfriend Sam Dingle, said this week: "It's just a matter of time and I think that it's going to come down to who actually breaks the news in the end."
