star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro
has applied for pretrial intervention programme in order to avoid facing jail time on an outstanding assault charge.
The reality star was indicted
last December for allegedly knocking a man unconscious during a brawl in September 2009.
If Ortiz-Magro is granted entry into a pretrial intervention programme, he will be spared from serving any time in jail and the establishment of a criminal record as long as he successfully completes all court-mandated stipulations, reports the Asbury Park Press
Assistant Ocean County, NJ prosecutor Hillary Bryce stated that the move will free the Jersey Shore
star to travel to Italy next month to tape the MTV series's fourth season while the application is processed.
Ortiz-Magro has been ordered to return to superior court on June 6 to learn if his request to enter the scheme has been granted.
If approved, the 24-year old will not be mandated to admit guilt in the matter but he will be required to stay out of legal trouble for at least one year.Jersey Shore
returns with new episode 'At the End of the Day' on Thursday on MTV.
