Why do so many British actors die prematurely? Elisabeth Sladen died at only 65 last year, and now Caroline john at 71. Average life expectancy for a woman today is about 80. I've seen this happen to many other people involved with 'Doctor Who' as well. How come they don't live into their 80's or 90's? My grandmothers are both over 90.

It's only Jo Grant (Katy Manning) left now from the Pertwee assistants :-/

actually Mike Yates (Richard Franklin) and Benton (John Leavene) are still alive. She's th last main assistant but i can't stand her. R.I.P Caroline, you were the best Pertwee Companion (tied with Sarah) in my eyes :(

Ms. John's readings for BBC AUDIO's unabridged novelisation range were - and will remain - wonderfully evocative of the Pertwee era, and her most reading of the late Elizabeth Sladen's autobiography is a fitting swansong of her considerable charm, cheeky-wit and talent.
Above all, she loved DOCTOR WHO and this was reciprocated by fans of the series.
