has revealed his excitement at cooking for David Beckham.
The celebrity chef, who is best known as one of the judges
on MasterChef Australia
, said that he was very happy to welcome footballer Beckham into his Melbourne restaurant Press Club last night.
Calombaris told the Herald Sun
: "This doesn't get any better. We've had the Prime Minister, recently Sarah Jessica Parker, but this for me is the ultimate.
"Football is my passion. I always said if I wasn't going to be a chef I would have been a footballer. But I was just no good at playing it, hence I'm a chef. It's exciting for myself and my staff knowing someone of that calibre was coming in."
Calombaris said that he added his own personal touch to Beckham's meal and remained aware of the nutritional needs of a sports star.
He also revealed that he would be watching Beckham's football game in Melbourne on December 6, saying: "Not long ago I was watching the New York Red Bulls play, so to now see LA Galaxy play is quite exciting and to also see my beloved Melbourne Victory is a bonus."
Calombaris, who became a father for the first time when partner Natalie Tricarico gave birth
to son James four months ago, is due to open his sixth restaurant, Mama Baba, on January 20 next year.> MasterChef' judge George Calombaris: 'Fatherhood is really beautiful'> Aussie 'MasterChef' judge George Calombaris doesn't want "bully" Gordon Ramsay on show
