The Olympic Park is alive once again for the Paralympics Opening Ceremony, just 17 days after London bid a sad farewell to the Summer Olympic Games.Physicist Stephen Hawking launched the event, telling the crowd: "Look up at the stars and not down at your feet ... try to make sense of what you see ... be curious."
Sir Ian McKellen also narrated as Prospero alongside Nicola Miles-Wildin as Miranda from the Shakespeare play The Tempest.

I wont be watching as I'm all sported out.I gave the diamond league a miss for the same reason.would waiting 2 years be better and give it better viewing figures.

I don't think it would increase viewing figures greatly. I'm just as interested in the Paralympics as I was in the Olympics, but that's me personally. Bring on the Winter Olympics next! lol

Great show ruined by the awful screaming rendering of I am what I am

Agreed. And it should have been way more up tempo.

Stephen Hawking, one of the most enabled people in this world of ours; how proud we should be that he is British!!!

Surprisingly, Clare Balding was the only good thing on the Channel 4 Coverage. More4 was magical with the audio description, particularly during the Miranda part, but Jon Snow and the gang just ruined it for me with their dull talk on everything but the ceremony. Why would anyone want to listen to people talking about war during a joyful event?

Yes, I found it a little bit deep and serious. Not sure the Channel 4 News people were the right choice for it.

I think more BBC employees should have been given non-exclusive contracts like Clare Balding.
